#3 Inside Scoop

Any KL-rians would be familiar with the name Inside Scoop which has built its name to be one of the best ice cream parlours around Kuala Lumpur and Klang Valley. With Inside Scoop's flavourful arrays of ice cream to choose from, this name is an absolute gem for dessert lovers. Ranging from the classic vanilla beans to much more exotic ones such as the best-selling cempedak flavour, durian - King of all fruits - and teh tarik flavour. The locality of the flavor really bursts through to your tongue with cempedak bits hinting at every scoop you are taking, and the richness of the teh tarik is strong to strike on your palette.

#4 llaolao

Ilao Ilao has been incredibly well-received overseas, especially in Europe and Singapore. Fortunately, we do not have to travel all the way there for natural frozen yogurt as Ilao Ilao was brought into Malaysia recently. They offer amazingly good yogurt with a series of toppings, fresh fruits, and homemade sauce. Fruits are cut daily and fresh berries (not frozen) are imported. Yogurt is made from skimmed milk and has a low-fat content, which makes it melt a little quicker, but the flavors are absolutely to die for!

#5 Booza Turkish Ice Cream

Nestled within the bustling Bukit Bintang, Booza has been making waves with its homemade Turkish ice cream. If you’re active on social media, you may have stumbled across ice cream carts in Turkey where the ice cream master often pulls out tricks with long scoops and cones. And expect the same here with a range of flavors that come in thick, gooey, and chewy textures. It might sound like a different league of its own but chomping down this refreshing ice cream will have you appreciating the scorching sun.

#6 Whimsical Gelateria & Cafe

Whimsical Gelateria and Cafe is another birthchild by Cielo Dolci. It features a wide range of Western dishes such as pasta and sandwiches, along with some delicious and photo-worthy ice cream. They are also the first who make the Nasi Lemak Gelato, which sounds awfully weird but is addictive at the same time. A newcomer on the menu, Blueberry Muffin gelato is quickly nabbing accolades too.

#7 Sangkaya

Coconut beverage is known as a great thirst quencher and more so in Malaysia, especially given our typically hot weather. But what about coconut ice cream? It’s certainly nothing new in terms of its flavor, and yet Sangkaya manages to make it big with its coconut ice cream phenomenon. Already a hit when they first started out in Jalan Alor back in 2014, the secret of their success lies in the freshly-concocted ice cream made with real coconut ingredients, instead of the artificial flavor often found for such desserts. Unlike other ice cream outlets that offer a variety of flavors, Sangkaya focuses primarily on all things coconut. They also sell coconut drinks, but it was their premium coconut ice cream that mattered the most. At the top of their must-have list is the Signature version. Served in a small, yet cute-looking coconut husk, you’ll get four scoops of coconut ice cream. Best of all, you can add toppings of your choice – e.g. sweet corn, kidney beans, and corn flakes – for free. Upon the first scoop of the coconut ice cream, you’ll find the taste is just as refreshingly pleasant as the fresh coconut juice found at the roadside stall. Then there are the flesh strips found at the bottom of the coconut husk once you finish off the ice cream, which adds a nice little touch to end your dessert with utmost satisfaction!

#8 The Ice Cream Bar

Not your regular ice cream bar for sure and it's the brainchild of Inside Scoop, possibly the most cherished ice cream spot in town. Toss the confetti – ice cream with alcohol is the star of the show here too! Expect flavors like Whisky Cream, XO Cranberry, Whisky & Nuts, Smoked Cognac, Beer and Bailey’s. For those of you who don’t do so well with alcohol, you may plunge headlong into flavors like Dragonfruit Sorbet, Teh Tarik, Kopi Peng, Almond Butterscotch, White Truffle Chocolate with Sea Salt, Mint Stracciatella, Pistachio, and Hazelnut. Another winner here is their buttermilk waffles which play as an ideal bed to these sure-win ice creams.

#9 Thirty Seconds

Who doesn’t love scoops of ice cream sandwiched between buns? For one that would blow your mind away, head over to Thirty Seconds, a humble family-run cafe with cozy vibes and comfortable dishes. To put an end to your curiosity, the name of the restaurant refers to the ideal length of time to pull a shot of espresso. Be sure to wrap up your meal with their Shamaziin ice cream sandwich, made by Shaun Liew, an artisanal ice cream maker. Either charcoal buns or regular toasted buns are halved and filled with scoops of ice creams, not your average chocolate or vanilla, be awed with Horlicks & Maltesers and Peanut Butter Milo. The bread takes advantage of the creamy goodness, turning a little soggy in a good way and the taste of the ice cream is as good as the name. If you are one of those who like dipping French fries into ice cream, you couldn’t ask for anything better, as the platter comes with a handful of fries.

#10 Mammamia Gelato Italiano

Mammamia Gelato Italiano is where you want to be if varieties are your jam. With more than 30 flavors chockful behind the glass shelve, one may hem and haw, but rest assured nothing falls below the rating of spectacular. Think flavors like Ferrero Rocher, Kinder Bueno, Smarties, Nutella, Snickers, Oreo, Milo, Mango, and Durian, to name a few. Whether it’s scooped into a cup, stacked inside a crunchy cone, or perched atop warm waffles; it tastes as good as it looks. On a side note, their ice cream cakes are widely acclaimed by the patrons too.
